  • Re-accreditation 24 March 2017

Provider: Technical and Further Education Commission

    Course: Diploma of Information Technology

    Renewal of course accreditation

Report on accreditation and renewal of accreditation of two higher education courses of study offered by Technical and Further Education Commission

A delegate of TEQSA has accredited under Section 46 and renewed the accreditation under Section 56 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (the TEQSA Act), of the following higher education courses of study offered by Technical and Further Education Commission for a period of seven years until 24 March 2024:

    • Diploma of Information Technology
    • Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Security)

TEQSA has decided to impose under subsection 53(1) of the TEQSA Act the following conditions on the accreditation of the courses, to be met within the nominated timeframes:

    Condition 1

By 31 October 2017 the provider reviews the course curricula to ensure the Diploma of Information Technology and Bachelor Information Technology (Network Security) address core theoretical frameworks and research, and submits to TEQSA the revised course structures and outlines for both qualifications (PCAS 1.3 and 1.6).

    Condition 2

By 1 December 2018 the provider develops and implements a moderation plan, and submits to TEQSA evidence of the external moderation of student assessment in the Diploma of Information Technology and Bachelor Information Technology (Network Security) coursework units (PCAS 5.3).

    Condition 3

    • By 31 March 2018, and for three years thereafter in 2019, 2020 and 2021, for the Diploma of Information Technology and Bachelor Information Technology (Network Security), the provider submits to TEQSA:
        • annual course reports submitted to the provider's relevant academic governance committee evidencing analysis of student performance data and external benchmarking activities (PCAS 5.5)
        • minutes of the relevant academic governance committee meeting demonstrating consideration of the reports and recommendations for improvement (PCAS 5.4 and 6.1)
    • a revised list of members specifying their industry/academic background and ongoing attendance at Course Advisory Committee meetings (PCAS 1.2 and 6.1).

    Main reasons for decision

TEQSA considers that the decision to apply conditions to the Technical and Further Education Commission's application for accreditation of two courses of study is consistent with the basic principles for regulation in Part 2 of the TEQSA Act, as the Technical and Further Education Commission is at risk of not complying with a number of the Threshold Standards.

TEQSA considers that the risks of non-compliance with the Threshold Standards involve a number of matters that may affect the Technical and Further Education Commission's capacity to manage and deliver its higher education awards.

    • The broad issues which relate to the Diploma of Information Technology and the Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Security) include:

      a) Course design

      b) Moderation of assessment

      c) Benchmarking

      d) Monitoring and review
