TEQSA's Annual Report for 2015-16 was tabled in Parliament on 26 October 2016.
Over the last 20 years, there has been significant interest in factors leading to student drop out (attrition) from first-year higher education studies. The factors identified include a range of personal attributes of the students themselves as well as academic and administrative aspects of higher education institutions’ operations. Concern over attrition is primarily centred on financial and reputational issues, for governments and for the institutions. But the issue is of considerable significance for the students themselves, in terms of wasted time and personal debt.
Key financial metrics on Australia’s higher education sector is the third release of financial data analysed by TEQSA as part of its sector monitoring.
This report is the second release of financial data analysed by TEQSA as part of its sector monitoring. It provides a snapshot of selected key financial metrics covering the whole of Australia’s higher education sector using data collected in 2015.
Risk ratings for indicators are derived by TEQSA giving consideration to risk thresholds and the specific circumstances of providers.
Engagement provides us with opportunities to understand issues impacting the sector, and to consult on regulatory initiatives and changes.
This guidance note outlines the requirements for providing documentary evidence to TEQSA in support of applications, with respect to how to name files and specifications for formatting.
This policy establishes a set of principles to inform our treatment of providers identified as high risk in relation to students or financial position.

A student may enter a higher education course of study through a special arrangement involving the completion of an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS). This type of arrangement is called an ‘ELICOS Direct Entry’.
