Report on accreditation of six higher education courses of study offered by The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA)

TEQSA has determined, under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (the TEQSA Act), to grant accreditation of the following higher education courses of study offered by The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) for a period of seven years until 12 May 2021:

• Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting);
• Bachelor of Fine Arts (Costume);
• Bachelor of Fine Arts (Design for Performance);
• Bachelor of Fine Arts (Properties and Objects);
• Bachelor of Fine Arts (Staging); and
• Bachelor of Fine Arts (Technical Theatre and Stage Management).

Background to Decision

NIDA submitted an application for accreditation of six courses of study under Part 4 of the TEQSA Act. Subsection 45(4) of the TEQSA Act requires a registered higher education provider who is not authorised to self-accredit the course of study to apply to TEQSA for accreditation. Subsection 49(6) enables TEQSA to grant accreditation of a course of study for a period not exceeding seven years.

A delegate of TEQSA has determined, under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (the TEQSA Act), to grant accreditation of the following higher education course of study offered by the Australian Institute of Business and Management Pty Ltd for a period of seven years until 20 June 2021:

• Graduate Diploma of Business

Background to Decision

The Australian Institute of Business and Management Pty Ltd submitted an application for accreditation of this course of study to the New South Wales Department of Education and Training (NSW DET). Under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (Consequential Amendments and Transitional) Act 2011, TEQSA was required to make a decision on the application as the NSW DET did not make a decision on the application prior to the commencement of TEQSA's regulatory functions. Subsection 49(6) enables TEQSA to grant accreditation of a course of study for a period not exceeding seven years.

TEQSA has determined that the higher education course of study submitted by Acknowledge Education Pty Ltd (formerly Stott's Colleges Pty Ltd) for accreditation complies with the Provider Course Accreditation Standards and arrangements for delivery at all Australian sites.

TEQSA has extended, under section 37A of the TEQSA Act, the registration of South Metropolitan TAFE as a higher education provider, for a period of two years to 31 December 2019.

TEQSA has varied, under subsection 32(2) of the TEQSA Act, condition 1 previously imposed on the registration of South Metropolitan TAFE as a higher education provider.

The original condition (imposed 28 April 2016) is as follows:

South Metropolitan TAFE to provide quarterly progress reports on the redevelopment and authorisation of the corporate and academic governance framework and activities for higher education including:

• strategic plan
• business plan, showing adequate funding and resources for higher education
• recruitment of academic leaders
• achievement of scholarship activity targets

The varied condition is as follows:

South Metropolitan TAFE to provide two progress reports per year on its higher education operations including:

• Business plan, showing adequate funding and resources for higher education.

• Associate Degree of Mobile Development

South Metropolitan TAFE must not enrol new students in the courses.
