  • Registration and Accreditation 30 March 2021

    Provider: AIE Institute Limited

    Registration

Report on registration of AIE Institute Ltd

    On 30 March 2021, TEQSA:

    • granted, under section 21 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (TEQSA Act), the application by AIE Institute Ltd for registration in the category of Higher Education Provider, for a period of five years until 30 March 2026.

    • accredited, under section 49 of the TEQSA Act, the application by AIE Institute Ltd for accreditation of the following course for a period of five years until 30 March 2026:
      • Bachelor of Game Development
    • imposed, under section 53 of the TEQSA Act, one condition on the accreditation of the Bachelor of Game Development course: No less than four weeks prior to the commencement of the Bachelor of Game Development, AIE Institute Ltd must provide TEQSA with a table specifying:

    Condition 1: Academic Staffing

          1. the name of each teaching staff member
          2. the units to be delivered by the teaching staff member for the upcoming three terms
          3. the teaching staff member's highest level of relevant qualification and awarding institution
          4. scholarly activities, professional practice or research by the teaching staff member over the preceding six months.

    Background

AIE Institute Ltd (AIE) applied to TEQSA for registration in the category of Higher Education Provider and for the accreditation of one course:

    • Bachelor of Game Development

TEQSA considered AIE's applications and provided a draft assessment report with details of the assessment of AIE's applications by the responsible assessment team. TEQSA's Commission considered AIE's response to the draft report and made the decision to approve AIE's application for registration on 30 March 2021 on the basis that it was satisfied that AIE met the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2015 (HES Framework). One condition was imposed on the accreditation of AIE's course.

    Main reasons for the decision

TEQSA made these decisions on the basis that it was satisfied that AIE meets the Provider Registration Standards and Provider Course Accreditation Standards of the HES Framework. However, TEQSA considered that there remained a risk related to AIE's capacity to meet the Threshold Standards in the future.

On this basis, TEQSA agreed that it was appropriate to register AIE for a period of five years until 30 March 2026, and to accredit AIE's Bachelor of Game Development course for the same period. The five-year period of registration and accreditation is consistent with the basic principles of regulation and reflects risks associated with an applicant for initial registration intending to offer a higher education course but having no track record in the provision of higher education.

TEQSA also agreed it was appropriate to impose one condition on its course accreditation.

    Application to withdraw conditions

In accordance with section 53 of the TEQSA Act, TEQSA may vary or revoke a condition imposed on the registration of a higher education provider, either on its own initiative or upon application by the provider for variation or revocation.
