Course accreditation
Report on accreditation of two higher education courses of study offered by Ozford Institute of Higher Education Pty Ltd
On 16 June 2023, a delegate of TEQSA:
- accredited, under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (TEQSA Act), the following courses offered by Ozford Institute of Higher Education Pty Ltd, for a period of seven years until 16 June 2030:
- Bachelor of Information Systems
- Bachelor of Cyber Security.
- imposed, under section 53 of the TEQSA Act, two conditions on the accreditation of the Bachelor of Cyber Security.
Condition 1:
- Prior to the commencement of course delivery, Ozford Institute of Higher Education Pty Ltd must provide to TEQSA a list showing each staff member that will teach all units in the first year of the course and provide academic leadership, as well as details of each staff member's qualifications and experience in the cyber security field of education.
- Ozford Institute of Higher Education Pty Ltd must not commence marketing or delivering the Bachelor of Cyber Security until it receives notification from TEQSA that TEQSA is satisfied that the staffing profile for the course is sufficient to meet the educational and academic support needs of students undertaking the course, and that the academic staffing profile for the course provides the level and extent of academic oversight and teaching capacity needed to lead students in intellectual inquiry suited to the nature and level of the expected learning outcomes.
Condition 2:
Prior to the commencement of course delivery, Ozford Institute of Higher Education Pty Ltd must provide evidence to TEQSA that it has broadened the membership of its Course Advisory Committee and/or Academic Board to include expertise in the cyber security field of education.
Main reasons for the decision
TEQSA made these decisions in light of risks that the Bachelor of Cyber Security submitted by Ozford Institute of Higher Education Pty Ltd may not meet, or continue to meet, the following provisions of the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021:
- Section 3.2 of Part A, in relation to ensuring that:
- The staffing complement for the course is sufficient to meet the educational, academic support and administrative needs of student cohorts undertaking the course.
- The academic staffing profile for the course provides the level and extent of academic oversight and teaching capacity needed to lead students in intellectual inquiry suited to the nature and level of the expected learning outcomes.
- Section 5.1 of Part A, in relation to ensuring that the decision to approve the course was informed by overarching academic scrutiny that was competent to assess the design, delivery and assessment of the course independently of the staff directly involved in those aspects of the course.
Application to withdraw conditions
In accordance with section 53 of the TEQSA Act, TEQSA may vary or revoke a condition imposed on the accreditation of a higher education course of study, either on its own initiative, or upon application by the provider for variation or revocation.
