• Accreditation 23 February 2016

Provider: Engineering Institute of Technology Pty Ltd

Course: Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems)

    Course accreditation

Report on accreditation of two higher education courses of study offered by Engineering Institute of Technology Pty Ltd

A delegate of TEQSA has accredited, under section 49 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 (the TEQSA Act), the following higher education courses of study offered by Engineering Institute of Technology Pty Ltd for a period of seven years until 23 February 2023:

    • Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems)
    • Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Electrical Systems)

TEQSA has, under subsection 53(1) of the TEQSA Act, imposed two conditions on the accreditation of the above courses of study.

    Condition 1:

Prior to marketing of accredited courses and enrolment of students, EIT reviews its admission criteria and course documentation for the Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems) and the Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Electrical Systems), after considering the feedback provided by TEQSA, with a view to ensuring that the course documentation consistently presents admission criteria which are appropriate for the level of the course, take account of external benchmarks and ensure that students have adequate prior knowledge and skills.

The evidence of the benchmarking review must refer to comparable courses to the proposed EIT model of a 3 + 2 program designed for delivery in online mode for professional accreditation by Engineers Australia.

EIT must provide the revised course documentation and admission criteria to TEQSA within one week of approval by the EIT Academic Board.

    Condition 2:

Prior to marketing of accredited courses and enrolment of students, EIT provide evidence of the review and updating of information (including website and brochure information) for prospective students clarifying the professional status of the course and the academic entry requirements:

    a) that the Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems) is a professional development course and is not an entry-to-practice qualification

    b) that a Bachelor of Engineering (4 year duration with a research component) recognised by Engineers Australia is required for admission to the Masters for recognition of the course by Engineers Australia for professional development purposes.

    c) whether the Graduate Diploma is an exit award only or also an entry point of a nested program for articulation pathways students who do not hold a 4 year undergraduate degree in a relevant field of engineering

The courses of study listed above are accredited for offer in the following modes:

    • Delivery mode: External
    • Attendance mode: External

    Main reasons for decision

TEQSA has determined that the two higher education courses of study submitted by Engineering Institute of Technology Pty Ltd for accreditation comply with the Provider Course Accreditation Standards. The courses have been submitted for accreditation on the basis of online delivery only.

TEQSA considers that the decision to apply conditions to the accreditation of the two courses of study is consistent with the basic principles for regulation in Part 2 of the TEQSA Act, as the courses are at risk of not complying with a number of the Threshold Standards.

    • The broad issues which relate to the Master of Engineering (Electrical Systems) and the Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Electrical Systems) include PCAS 2.4 (in relation to the information provided to prospective students of the courses) and PCAS 3.1 (in relation to admission criteria for the course).
