Consultation opens on draft SRE for adopting a definition of Islamophobia

TEQSA is seeking feedback on the draft Statement of Regulatory Expectations (SRE): Adopting a definition of Islamophobia. This consultation follows our recent consultation on the draft Statement of Regulatory Expectations (SRE): Adopting a definition of antisemitism, which has now closed.

As with the previous consultation, TEQSA has developed a set of consultation questions to support focused feedback on the draft SRE. Respondents may choose to comment on any of the questions that are relevant to them and are also welcome to provide additional feedback.

The consultation closes at 5:00pm (AEDT) on Monday 12 October 2026.

Submissions can be made to consultation@teqsa.gov.au.

TEQSA will consider all feedback received. We aim to publish the final SRE on adopting a definition of antisemitism and the SRE on adopting a definition of Islamophobia in October 2026.

TEQSA is also working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, students and staff to identify and develop guidance for the sector on adopting a definition of racism towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The timelines for the consultation of the drafted and final versions of this guidance will be set in collaboration with these Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders.
