TEQSA welcomes plans to improve admissions transparency

5 July 2017

Media Release

The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) has welcomed the release of the Department of Education and Training’s implementation plan on improving the transparency of higher education admissions.

With the Department of Education and Training already accepting all 14 of the Higher Education Standards Panel’s recommendations on admissions transparency, the Admissions Transparency Implementation Working Group has now produced a plan that will work towards improving access to, and comparability of, information about higher education course entry requirements.

TEQSA chief executive, and member of The Admissions Transparency Implementation Working Group, Anthony McClaran, said that the release of the implementation plan was a step in the right direction, with government, regulator and sector all working together.

“A key implementation objective of this plan is for TEQSA to work with the Government and the sector to provide monitoring and guidance on improved admissions transparency,” Mr. McClaran said.

“Work is already underway, with TEQSA set to carry out a formative evaluation of responses to the HESP’s recommendations, providing a progress snapshot as the sector moves towards greater transparency”.

TEQSA will continue to monitor the sector’s response to improving admissions transparency with monitoring and reporting to government and community to begin in 2018 and a review and evaluation, including recommendations to government on the need for further reforms, set to take place in 2020.
