Higher Education Standards Framework

TEQSA will register and evaluate the performance of higher education providers against the Higher Education Standards Framework. The Framework will consist of the following domains:

  • Provider Standards comprising:
    • Provider Registration Standards
    • Provider Category Standards
    • Provider Course Accreditation Standards
  • Qualification Standards
  • Teaching and Learning Standards
  • Research Standards
  • Information Standards

The Higher Education Threshold Standards (consisting of the Provider Standards and the Qualification Standards) were established as Legislative Instruments on 4 January, 2012. Compliance with the Threshold Standards is mandatory for all higher education providers in Australia as of January 29, 2012 when TEQSA assumes its regulatory role under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011. The Standards are available online.

These Threshold Standards will remain in force unless varied from time to time by the Minister for Tertiary Education, after taking independent advice from the Higher Education Standards Panel.
