Renewal of accreditation
How to renew the accreditation of a course of study
A registered higher education provider without self-accrediting authority must apply in writing to TEQSA for renewal of the accreditation of a higher education course of study.
The application must be made in writing at least 180 days before the current accreditation period is due to end, or a shorter period if approved by TEQSA. An agreement to any shorter period must be sought in writing from TEQSA as early as possible prior to the expiry of the 180 day period and extension of the deadline can be rejected.
Applications must be on the approved form, include all information requested by TEQSA, and must be accompanied by the applicable fee and Payment/Invoice Form. Information about fees is available on the TEQSA fees page.
If TEQSA grants the application for renewal of accreditation of a course of study, TEQSA will determine a new period for which the course is accredited. Under the TEQSA Act, this period cannot exceed seven years and may be shorter.
Packaging multiple applications
In the interest of streamlining regulatory processes, providers are encouraged to apply for renewal of course accreditation at the same time as renewal of registration, and where applicable, other regulatory processes, such as CRICOS re-registration. The ability to submit concurrent applications will depend on a range of factors, including accreditation and registration periods. Providers are strongly encouraged to contact TEQSA to discuss the best way of packaging applications prior to submission.
Application documents are available on the forms and guides page. Please note, the Application Form is not applicable to courses of study that lead to a qualification not recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), such as ELICOS courses or Foundation Programs. Application forms for Foundation Programs and for ELICOS courses delivered by registered higher education providers or in a pathway arrangement with higher education providers, can be found in the CRICOS section of the website.
Providers that have any questions about renewal of course accreditation should contact their TEQSA Case Manager.
It is essential that applicants read the Application Guide before completing the Application Form.
